The National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey (NFB of NJ) sincerely appreciates your interest in volunteering at our 50th Annual State Convention—“Live the Life You Want; Stronger Together: 50 Years of Progress and Possibilities.” This milestone event celebrates five decades of advocacy, achievement, and community impact. The convention will take place at the Tropicana Hotel, Atlantic City, located at 2831 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401, from Wednesday, October 21 through Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The NFB of NJ State Convention is the largest gathering of blind people in the state. It is the premier event for training, support, and information for the blind community. It also serves as a governing body, democratically electing leadership and establishing each year’s organizational priorities.

The NFB of NJ is the state’s largest organization of blind individuals, working to improve the lives of people who are blind through advocacy, education, and empowerment. Its membership includes blind adults, students, parents, and professionals from across the state. As a volunteer 501(c)(3) membership organization, the NFB of NJ is dedicated to advancing policies that promote independence, equal access, and full participation in society. Through its programs and advocacy efforts, the organization works to ensure that blindness is not a barrier to living the life one wants.

The NFB of NJ is an affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind, the oldest and largest organization of blind people in the United States. The National Federation of the Blind works nationwide to promote the full integration of blind individuals into society through advocacy, public education, technology, and programs that encourage independence and self-confidence. Together, the national and state organizations speak with a collective voice to advance equality and opportunity for blind Americans.

As a volunteer, you play an essential role in helping the NFB of NJ provide a smooth, enjoyable, and meaningful experience for all attendees, including individuals who are blind, low vision, and deafblind, as well as their families, exhibitors, presenters, sponsors, and members of the broader community. Your support—whether assisting with registration, guiding guests, managing activities, or supporting behind the scenes—helps foster an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can connect, learn, and be inspired.

To ensure all volunteers are well prepared, please attend the one-hour volunteer training Zoom on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Zoom details will be shared later. Volunteers must also review and agree to follow the Courtesy Rules of Blindness, which promote respectful and inclusive interactions with blind and low vision individuals.
