Welcome! This application is for individuals who are joining the National Federation of the Blind of New Jersey (NFB of NJ) for the first time—either as a member of a local chapter or as an affiliate member of the state organization. This form must also be completed if you have not paid dues to a chapter or to the state affiliate within the past two calendar years. If you are simply renewing your active membership, please use the renewing membership form for the appropriate local chapter or as an affiliate member instead found at www.nfbnj.org/membership/renewing.
This form is used to collect your contact information and to record whether you are joining a local chapter or applying as an affiliate member of the state organization.
Submitting this application begins the process but does not guarantee membership. After your application is received, you will be invited to attend two meetings of your chosen chapter or, if you are applying as an affiliate member, two meetings of the state affiliate. Attending these meetings allows you to meet members, ask questions, and gain a clear understanding of what the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the NFB of NJ are all about. An affiliate officer or your chapter president will personally reach out to welcome you, provide meeting details, and guide you through the application steps. Once you have attended the required two meetings, the chapter or the NFB of NJ state affiliate will hold a vote on your application. If you are approved, you will then complete the New Member Form in order to pay dues to your chapter or to the state affiliate. Dues are collected on a calendar year basis (January through December) and are not prorated. Your membership remains current only for the year in which dues are paid and must be renewed each January. At that point, you will be officially recognized as a member of NFB of NJ and the NFB.
NFB of NJ members work together to improve the lives of blind, low-vision, and deafblind people across New Jersey through advocacy, education, mentoring, and community. By joining, you become part of both NFB of NJ and the NFB, the largest and most influential membership organization of blind people in the United States. Membership provides opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and collective action to advance equality, opportunity, and independence. If you do not live near a local chapter, you may apply as an affiliate member of the state organization, ensuring that everyone has a way to participate and contribute to the movement.
